Salvage of the Cougar Ace →
I love finding out that there were people out there more obsessed with this than I was. Thank you Wired for proving I’m not the only cargo ship salvage nerd out there…
There’s a certain amount of pride in knowing I haven’t received a W-2 in 8 years…
Tumblr fails some serious ron usability tests. Still love it though
Just realizing the last post didn’t make much sense…
Conspiracy Theories
Conspiracy theories are a result of the human brain’s need to simplify the unfathomably complex nature of social events. They are natural oversimplifications of complicated issues.
[OK, I removed the rest of this cause it made no sense.]
Second Brain in Your Stomach →
I heard a thing on NPR today about this. Apparently there is so much nerve tissue surrounding your digestive tract that it constitutes a second brain in your body. When you get butterflies or bad digestion its because your second brain is unhappy.
Think about it, we’re always saying things like “my stomach’s talking” or “trust your gut”. The guy on the radio...
New Orb Album
Another new album from some old heads. Sounds like they’re really taking it back this time, like to 808 State era…

Commuter Feed "duh" moment
Ok, I really am obsessing over parsing and cataloging traffic reports and realized that isn’t the point of the site. CF isn’t about data, its about people. Its already a commuting community. Rather than focusing on data I should be focusing on making a stronger community. People keep giving me ideas to make it more like Dopplr, suddenly I see a real opportunity in this…

Lessons for musicians in the social media economy
I have a bunch of friends and aquaintances who are struggling musicians - home studios, with the day job still. Maybe gained a 100 - 1000 person fan following, but hovering around that point without much success other than regular shows and maybe breaking even on CD / merch sales. Very talented people all, but struggling to make it big despite working incredibly hard at their art.
Why?...
Commuter Feed & the Human Cloud
As I’m working on product roadmaps for Commuter Feed I keep hitting this issue of scale - once we cross a certain threshold of report volume the signal to noise ratio makes the data useless to average users. It would become overwhelmed with redundant, insignificant reports and other junk. Making the business profitable and useful comes up as a questionmark at this point. Especially since...
Scary
I went to find if a domain was developed by typing in the URL and instead of the usual firefox error I got back a screen of “related searches” from Road Runner cable. Having the cable company intercept my web browsing worries me a lot…
Great.
I love how my next door neighbors have been swapped from Pop Levi and his endearingly polite-but-weird band to some new douchebags that play shitty radio pop rock all day as loud as they can…
Creating an Incubator
The plan has always been to set up Zenji as an incubator for products: invent something, make it as a prototype, grow it a little, and then spin it off into its own company or sell the site at a profit. CF is the first part of this. The huge problem with this model is that I can’t be everywhere so I have a stack of shit that needs to be spec’d out and designed while trying to grow CF...
New Autechre Album
Had no idea there was a new Autechre album. Just downloaded Quaristice, actually more accessible than previous albums but it does degrade into some of the experimentalism that I just haven’t been able to deal with over the last few years. Kinda digging it, maybe I can get back into the AE thing…
